Old-Fashioned BBQ Bash: March 8, 2014

On the final day of the National Barbecue Association's Annual Conference & Trade Show, hundreds of barbecue enthusiasts from the general public braved the unsually cold and rainy Central Texas weather to join conference attendees for a special celebration focused on the art and enjoyment of barbecue. We call it the Old-Fashioned BBQ Bash and everyone was invited! In addition to all the barbecue-centric activities going on during the day, attendees had the opportunity to rub shoulders with the biggest names in the industry, and, of course, taste some great 'que! Thanks to everyone who participated in this year's event. The 2015 BBQ Bash will be held in Nashville, TN.

So what happened at this year's Bash? Plenty. Just some of the event from that day included:


LIVE MUSIC: Country music's Weldon Henson performed live on the outdoor stage. His honky-tonk roots and rock 'n roll style made for a truly authentic Texas performance.

"HOW TO" PRESENTATIONS: Are you a fan of 'low and slow' or 'hot and fast'? Either way, we're here to help. Experts DennyMike Sherman of DennyMike's Sauces & Seasonings and Mark Lambert of Sweet Swine O' Mine Distributing were on hand to offer some advice from the pros on the art and science of cooking meat.

BBQ TRADESHOW: Attendees got to check out all the latest products and equipment in the world of 'que from some of the industry's top vendors.

PEOPLE'S CHOICE BBQ SAUCE COMPETITION: Vinegar-based, tomato-based, mustard-based and more - dozens of sauces from all over the country were available to sample. And the best part? Attendees got to vote for their favorite. Congratulations to the following winners:

CENTRAL TEXAS STEAK COOK-OFF: Four world champion grillers went up against each other and several others in the inaugural Central Texas Steak Cook-Off, sanctioned by the Steak Cook-off Association. Congratulations to the following winners:
