NBBQA Past Presidents
Celebrating the Leaders who kept the Fire Burning
Since its founding, the National Barbecue & Grilling Association (NBBQA) has been shaped by passionate leaders who shared one mission — to unite, educate, and celebrate the barbecue and grilling world. Each president brought their own spark of leadership, vision, and heart, helping NBBQA grow into the thriving community it is today.
2022–Present: Kell and Janet Phelps (Management Transition)
In 2022, longtime NBBQA supporters Kell and Janet Phelps, owners of Barbecue News Magazine, took over the management and daily operations of the association. Their leadership reignited NBBQA’s spirit — bringing back in-person events, revitalizing member engagement, and launching new initiatives like the Live Fire Experience, Future of Q Youth Program, and the Now That’s Smokin’ podcast.
Together, they continue to honor the association’s roots while charting an exciting new path toward NBBQA’s 35th Anniversary Celebration in 2026 — a milestone that celebrates not only where barbecue has been, but where it’s headed next.
