History & mission

Established in January of 1991 and officially incorporated in the State of North Carolina in 1993, the National Barbecue & Grilling Association (NBBQA) emerged with the aim of tending to the requirements of the expansive, diverse, and flourishing barbecue industry.

During its inception, the landscape featured an array of organizations concentrating on specific segments or geographic regions within the barbecue realm. However, no solitary entity had been structured to unite and fortify the industry as a whole. Over the intervening years, the NBBQA has evolved into a dynamic 501(c)(6) trade association that lends support to every facet of the multi-billion dollar barbecue and grilling enterprise. Simultaneously, it endeavors to foster public involvement, education, and reverence for the venerable American barbecue heritage.

Whether one is a restaurateur, caterer, manufacturer, supplier, competitor, entrepreneur, or even an aspiring startup within the business, NBBQA membership caters to those who possess a personal or professional zeal for the lineage, customs, traditions, and future prospects of barbecue and grilling.

If your passion lies in the realm of barbecue and grilling, we warmly extend an invitation for you to unite with us!
