2023 NBBQA Annual Conference Agenda Set

For the past several months we have worked tirelessly on the upcoming 2023 NBBQA National Conference. We are happy to say the stage is now set. This agenda is complete because of the combined efforts of 50 plus members, vendors, and event staff. In the next few weeks, we hope to add a few more event sponsors and sign up over 250 excited attendees. Below is the total picture of what the 2023 NBBQA National Conference will be offering on February 15-18, 2023, in Orlando, Florida. 

2023 Educational Track

The 2023 Educational Track for the upcoming conference comes from a team of BBQ and Grilling veterans that included BBQ Hall of Famers Lee Ann Whippen and Ray “Dr. BBQ” Lampe. We also tapped into a few other Hall of Famers in Tuffy Stone and Meathead for their ideas and suggestions. The combined effort of these members has led to the release of the following classes and sessions that will presented during the upcoming conference. Without question you will find a session or class that is tailor made to every aspect of the vast BBQ and Grilling world. Each session is set for 55 minutes and will be recorded on video. This will allow every paid attendee to gain access to each session even if they are not present.

Steve Wald – Beef Cuts: How to Prep and Prepare This session is presented by Beef.org to showcase different beef cuts and how to prepare them.

Jeff Shapiro – BBQ Business 101 This session is set to show hands on successful practices/methods to managing and running any type of BBQ related business.

Social Media: The Simple How and Why This session is set to demonstrate how and why we all should be using Social Media platforms to grow our businesses. Basic tactics and language that will help independent business owners.

Delivering Vs. Catering Panel: (Craig Kimball, Barbara Latimer, Bobbie Deverall) This session is set to discuss how successful businesses work around added delivery costs, use catering to add revenue, and offer different options to keep customers coming back.

Stephen Afflixio (US Foods) – Modern Day Kitchen: Adapt and Survive This session will feature professionals from US Foods to demonstrate how food service has changed and how you need to change with it as well.

David Malek – Knives: Use, Care, and Maintenance This session is set to show hands on to cor-rectly keep knives in great shape so they last longer and work better.

SCA – Producing a successful Steak Cookoff This session will show proven tactics to help anyone produce a successful steak cookoff event.

5 Min. Idea Exchange – Special Interest Groups This session is set to break attendees into Special Interest Groups where they share ideas and grow their networks.

Turning Flavor Makers Into Money Makers Panel This panel session is set to let successful Co-Packers lead Q&A sessions on all things Rubs and Sauces.

Expanding Product Distribution – Panel (Dan Arnold, Others) Session that will give details on how to get a product inside more retail locations. Panel with vendors already using big house retailers. 

2023 General Sessions

The general sessions during this years conference will showcase our members like never before. Our goal is setting up attendees to learn while also expanding their BBQ and Grilling networks. The theme for the 2023 conference is #bettertogether and we hope to present an environment to ensure we all improve our crafts.

Welcome Reception – Fire Fight Sampling Competition: Presented by Prairie Fresh This opening general session is set outside under a huge tent and intended as a networking and FUN event

One on One – Round Table Access To BBQ Masters This session is set to allow one-on-one access between BBQ and Grilling personalities and attendees in a 5 minute Q&A segments.

Meet The Masters Luncheon: Presented by Sonny's BBQ This session is light hearted and lots of fun as Pitmasters share a few stories while answering questions from attendees.

Key Note Breakfast Address: Speaker TBD This session is slated to kick off our educational track of events on Thursday morning.

Awards of Excellence Dinner: Presented by BBQ Spot This awards dinner is set to showcase and highlight those brands and members who have excelled in 2022.

Night of Fire This Friday evening outside dinner will allow different NBBQA members to showcase their skillsets for attendees. 

2023 Additional Events

As we look to keep things smoking like never before we have also added several extra events that are not part of the attendee package but featured as added events for any BBQ or Grilling lover to enjoy. We have brought back the annual Rhinestone Cowboy Steak Cookoff and will also be hosting several Master BBQ and Grilling Classes taught by World Champions and open to anyone.

BBQ Restaurant Tour This tour will be making stops at three Orlando BBQ destinations with samples and back of the house tours at each stop.

Rhinestone Cowboy Steak Cookoff This event will showcase the best BBQ and Grilling cooks in the World for a chance to win $1000 and the NBBQA Rhinestone Cowboy Hat.

SCA Double Down Showdown This double SCA steak cookoff will award over $5,000 in cash to winners in the different events slated for Saturday.

Master BBQ Classes We will offer FOUR different Master BBQ Classes: Whole Hog (Boars Night Out), Boston Butt (Mark Lambert), Brisket (Moe Cason & Bob Trudnak), Ribs (Tuffy Stone)
